Abisko – Experience Abisko

250 km north of the Arctic circle, a village with around 175 inhabitants surrounded by high mountains, lush mountain birch forests and the seventh biggest lake in Sweden. Welcome to Abisko and our short tour where we learn about the history of Abisko.

Abisko is a unique place where the sun never rises above the horizon in the wintertime, but never sets in the summer. It is one of the best places to watch the northern lights which attracts people from all over the world, while at the same time nature is just around the corner. The village with its rare setting has an unparallelled story to tell, in both the big and the small perspective; stories from Second World War, the moose that come down to the village in the winters, the history of the navvies who built the railroad, the changing climate of the Arctic and the beginning of STF Abisko turiststation.
