STF Akka Mountain cabin
Stunning views and sauna, close to Padjelanta
About the accommodation
Mount Áhkká (also known as the “Queen of Lappland”) provides an eastern wall for the mountain cabin, with the faint sound of cascading water from the magnificent waterfall at Vuojatädno, two kilometres away on the Padjelantaleden hiking trail. Many people consider the view from the cabin to be the best STF has to offer.Read more
At the mountain cabin, you have mobile coverage via GSM Telia.
The easiest alpine tour is to Pålnotjåkko Peak, from where you gain a panoramic view towards Áhkká and Padjelanta – the highest in the country. Only 300 metres from the cabin, near the beach at Akkajaure, is a field 200 metres long and 100 metres wide with possibly the largest concentration of Moor-king in northern Lapland.
Skiing in area is superb, with all types accessible. For those who want that little extra, they can dream of Áhkkás massive peak, 2,015 m.a.s.l. From the peak goes one of Sweden’s greatest ski runs – a change in altitude of an amazing 1,500 metres down to the lake.
A 200-metre icefall can be climbed on the northwest side of the massif. The first known climb from the valley straight up to point 1004 was done in March 2008 by two Polish climbers.
This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.
Here we have gathered all the information you need for a stay in one of our mountain cabins www.swedishtouristassociation.com/stfmountaincabin

It is a good idea to book train and bus travel in advance on the same Resplus ticket. If you want to book only the bus journey, you can do so at www.roadtoritsem.com/ Länstrafiken in Norrbotten no longer services the route between Gällivare and Ritsem.
