About the accommodation

Arådalen is a valley to the west of the Hundshögen mountain, in the southern Ovik mountains. The mountain cabin, which dates from 1895 when a tourist station was built here, is thus located in genuine mountain surroundings. The mountain cabin today is enjoyed by both experienced mountain tourists and families with children.

The mountain cabin is situated in a genuine mountain environment and has welcomed visitors since 1895, when it first opened its doors as a tourist camp. Today the mountain cabin still welcomes mountain tourists as well as families with children.

There are plenty of opportunities to go for easy day trips up the mountain from Arådalen, including trips to the summit of Hundshögen and to the old and well-preserved pastoral cabin in Östra Arådalen. These cabins were once an important part of farming in Jämtland, and also served as sleeping accommodation for the first generation of mountain tourists.

If you’re a keen angler you can try your luck lake fishing in the Visjön or river fishing in the Arån. The quiet surroundings and welcoming landscape woven with small mountain streams invite families with children to explore the great outdoors together.

At STF Fjällstuga Arådalen there is a small shop with a basic assortment of food. Larger purchases are best done at ICA in Svenstavik or at ICA in Myrviken.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.
