Skutboudden and the Brunskog Museum of Country Life are within walking distance, at the northern beach of Värmeln. The Brunskog District Association arranges several activities here through the year, including a craft fair, Gammelvala, an autumn market and a Christmas market. Brunskogs keramik (pottery) is also located here, and the workshop and shop are open all year. The museum includes the Skutboudden Restaurant, which can be booked for events such as weddings, conferences and parties, and by bus excursions.
The region around Arvika offers many craftsmen, Vildhjärta, Rackstadmuseet and Klässbols Linen Mill, which supplies tablecloths for royalty, embassies and the Nobel Feast each year. Arvika Golf Club with its 18-hole course lies 10 kilometres from the hostel. When the winter weather is suitable for skiing, you can take a daytrip to any one of several alpine centres, and there are fine lakes close by for tour skating.
