Open in 2027 – with limited services during the renovation

Parts of the main building at STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station are currently being upgraded and a new lobby is being built, so the station can keep welcoming guests for many years ahead. Accommodation is open and you’re warmly welcome as usual. The restaurant, sauna and changing rooms are closed during the renovation, but the guest kitchens, shop (with an expanded range of groceries), rental service and several common areas are open. And of course, the mountains are still right outside the door.

About the accommodation

STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station is located 816 meters above sea level at the far north of the Dalarna mountains, close to the Norwegian border. Right outside the door, endless kilometres of hiking trails and ski tracks await you.

STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station is the perfect starting point for hiking or skiing in a true mountain environment. There is something here for everyone: beginners, experienced mountain lovers, groups of friends and families with children.

The mountain station enjoys a beautiful setting at the foot of Långfjället, with views of the Norwegian mountains. Several nature reserves and national parks with unique nature lie on both the Norwegian and Swedish sides of the border.

We offer a range of accommodation options at different prices and comfort levels. You can choose a room with a private shower and toilet, or a room with shared facilities in the corridor. In the main building you will find several lounges and a table tennis table, and you can cook your own meals in one of our guest kitchens. During the winter and summer seasons of 2027, the restaurant and sauna will be closed for renovation. They will reopen before Christmas 2027.

Travelling with a dog? We have a few rooms where pets are allowed, as well as a lounge where you are welcome to spend time with your four-legged friend. Dogs are also welcome in Vallhalla, where you will find the reception, shop and ski rental. Please remember to keep your dog on a leash and show consideration for other guests.

STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station is eco-certified with Green Key, and the restaurant is KRAV-certified. We serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we are fully licensed. After a day outdoors, settle into the café and treat yourself to a waffle or something homemade.

At STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station you will find both a shop and a rental service. In the shop you can buy snacks and groceries such as frozen and chilled goods, vegetables, dry goods and much more. You can also complete your gear and buy essential mountain maps, clothing, first aid supplies and more. Our rental service offers most of what you need for your mountain adventure, both summer and winter. We recommend booking ski equipment in advance.

Parking is free for guests staying at the mountain station. We also have charging points for electric cars. Charging is done via the Pair Recharge app.

    The location of the mountain station makes it unique, where you really have ski-in/ski-out to the mountain combined with good accommodation!

    A sports break week with my two sons could not have been better. Children get to play, adults get to rest, and with your help, there was a solution for almost everything, and unlimited excursion destinations with just the right challenge were made available. It feels safe and well-organized.

    Good starting point if you want to do day trips in the mountains. There are many nice hiking options. So nice to be able to combine the hike with comfortable accommodation and super good food. The staff is very friendly and helpful. We are very satisfied with the stay.

Travel information
STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station is located at the northernmost part of the Dalarna mountains, close to the Norwegian border, approximately 190 km from Mora.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Travel by train to Mora and then continue with Dalatrafiken, which operates daily bus services to Grövelsjön Mountain Station. During winter, Fjällexpressen runs all the way to Grövelsjön from Stockholm.

CAR
From Idre, follow road 70 and then road 1056 towards Grövelsjön. It is approximately 40 km from Idre to Grövelsjön Mountain Station. Parking and electric car charging stations are available.

We at STF Grövelsjön Fjällstation have been working on our environmental profile since 1990 and have repeatedly been recognized for our environmental work. We were one of the first eco-labeled mountain facilities and we are constantly looking for improvement opportunities to continue to reduce our climate footprint. Our goal is that our guests, both now and in the future, will experience unspoiled mountain nature. We therefore need to actively continue to work with sustainability and do so according to our philosophy, which is based on a combination of innovation and tradition.

Examples of what we do:
• Energy - since 1984, the mountain station's main source of heat has been bog and mountain heat. Our electricity purchases come from renewable energy sources, and since 2025 the Mountain Station has generated part of its own electricity through solar panels installed on several of our buildings.
• Food - our restaurant is KRAV-certified, which is a guarantee for you as a guest that our staple foods are KRAV-labeled or organic. All meat is of Swedish origin, the reindeer meat is local from the area.
• Cleaning agents - all cleaning agents in daily work are eco-labeled.
• Waste management - we compress our waste in large presses to reduce the number of transports.

How you as a guest can help us:
• Travel climate-smart - this way you reduce emissions from your holiday. There is public transport that goes all the way to the entrance.
• Discover sustainably - respect the animals and nature, leave no human traces. By sticking to paths and fences, not leaving anything in nature and taking both your rubbish and what you find back down from the mountain, you can contribute to an unspoilt mountain nature.
• Choose local produce - when you shop with us and our neighbours, you support the local community.
• Electric car - as a resident of the mountain station, you park for free. We also have 6 places for charging electric cars. These do not need to be booked in advance.
