At Helags mountain station, you’ll find rooms of various sizes spread across several buildings. Cook your own meals in the self-catering kitchen or settle in at the restaurant, and bring your own sheets or rent them on site.

Different buildings

Sunnan and Nordan

In Sunnan and Nordan, you can stay either in a private room with four beds or in a dormitory shared with other guests. If you’re bringing your dog, the 4-bed rooms in Sunnan are available to you.

There are 12 4-bed rooms in the Nordan and Sunnan cabins, both with a self-catering kitchen where you can prepare your own meals.

The safety building

The safety building has one 8-bed room, which you share with other guests.

Gamla Östan

Gamla Östan is our oldest building at Helags, dating back to 1916. In this cabin, warmth comes from the wood stove and light from kerosene lamps and candles. There is no electricity in Gamla Östan, so it isn’t possible to charge your mobile phone. Gamla Östan has one 9-bed room and one 5-bed room.

Gamla Östan was designed by the architect John Åkerlund and is the only cabin that was preserved when the new station was built in 1983.

The beds in the four-bed rooms are 105 centimetres wide and come with mattresses, duvets and pillows. You can buy a travel sheet or rent bed linen on site if you choose not to bring your own bedding, travel sheet or sleeping bag.

Storstugan

Want to unwind? Head to the Pilgrim Hall in our cosy main lodge, where you can sit back and plan tomorrow’s adventure.

The frieze along the long sofa in the Pilgrim Hall depicts the journey that many pilgrims have made along the Jämt-Norge route, a few kilometres south of the station.

Service building

The service building has flushing toilets, showers and a sauna with a relaxation area.

Dog friendly

At Helags, dogs are welcome in designated rooms, so you can stay comfortably together during your time in the mountains. Don’t forget to add the “Pet” option if you want to bring your four-legged friend.

The main lodge and other common areas are pet-free out of consideration for guests with allergies.

Dog kennels are available around the buildings, where your dog can rest comfortably if you’d rather not leave it in your room or tent while you shower, enjoy the sauna or have dinner.

Camping

There are plenty of beautiful tent pitches around Helags mountain station, including along the trail up towards the Helags massif.

As a camper, you can pay a service fee that gives you access to all the facilities at Helags mountain station, including the sauna, showers, flushing toilets, self-catering kitchen and waste disposal. Read more about camping and service fees.
