    Travel options
To reach Kebnekaise, you first need to travel to Nikkaluokta, where the road ends. Nikkaluokta has daily bus connections to Kiruna.

The journey by train or bus from Stockholm to Nikkaluokta takes roughly 19 hours. As an STF member, you are eligible for discounts with SJ. For information and booking, please visit www.swedishtouristassociation.com/member-login/

Hiking/skiing from Nikkaluokta to Kebnekaise is 19 km. You follow the Dag Hammarskjöld trail (the trail between Abisko and Nikkaluokta) through the fertile valley of Ladjovagge, along the origin of the Kalix river, one of the large undeveloped national rivers. Estimated time is approximately 5–8 hours.

If you want to shorten the hike, it is possible to arrange transport by boat/helicopter in the summer and snowmobile in the winter, with local transport companies.

Flights between Kiruna and Stockholm are also available, however we advise guests to use train or bus as a first choice since air travel generally generates high greenhouse gas emissions per kilometer.

How we fulfil STFs sustainability pledgde

    • We provide advice about trails in the area, mountain safety and how to behave as a guest in the natural environment and reindeer grazing areas, how not to disturb animals and nature.
    • We avoid single-use products and only use ecolabelled cleaning products.
