The area is especially good for winter fishing. Mostly char and salmon trout are caught here. You can do day tours from Kutjaure to Stipok, which has a peculiar flora up on the bare mountain region. There are several impressive waterfalls upstream if you follow the rapids. Also, visit the Sallohaure Sámi camp, as well as the three long suspension bridges at the outflow from Sallohaure and Lake Vastenjaure. If you yearn for a cleansing sauna bath, a boat tour over to the Utsi family on the other side of the lake is recommended. You can also purchase fish and bread there.

No mobile coverage in the area.
Please note that you can only pay with cash at this mountain cabin. Paying with Swish or debit card will not be possible.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Travel options
To visit STF Kutjarure, you need to cross Lake Akkajaure. In winter, there is a marked ice trail from Ritsem to STF Akka. From Akkastugan there is a winter trail that leads to Lake Kutjaure. The last kilometers across the lake to STF Kutjaure are unmarked.

In summer, the shortest way to STF Kutjaure is via Vaisaluokta. You can get there by boat from Ritsem.

For information about boat traffic from Ritsem to Vaisaluokta, see swedishtouristassociation.com/boats

STF Kutjaure is another cabin on the Padjelantaleden and Nordkalottleden trails. Read more about Padjelantaleden www.swedishtouristassociation.com/padjelantatrail

For information about the Nordkalottleden, please use your preferred internet search engine.

It is easiest to get to Ritsem by bus from Gällivare, from where there are daily rail connections from Stockholm and other cities. It is a good idea to book train and bus travel in advance on the same Resplus ticket. If you want to book only the bus journey, you can do so at www.roadtoritsem.com/

Länstrafiken in Norrbotten no longer services the route between Gällivare and Ritsem.
