The island has a rich history as a fishing settlement, dating back to the 1600s when Queen Christina granted fishing rights to the fishermen of Piteå. Today, around 30 fishing cottages remain, now used as holiday homes.

The island is also home to the Heidenstam lighthouse—Sweden’s tallest iron lighthouse, standing an impressive 37 meters high. For nearly 120 years, it has guided sailors past the treacherous coastline.

The local cabin association maintains a wood-fired sauna, free and open to all—a wonderful way to connect with nature! Please note that the sauna cannot be booked in advance and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you’d like to sleep under the stars, camping is allowed on the island for a small service fee.

There is also a small shop offering basic groceries, snacks, and ice cream.
