About the accommodation

STF Ritsem is one of Sweden’s premier starting points for hiking and ski touring in some of the country’s most spectacular mountain areas – Sarek, Padjelanta and Stora Sjöfallet National Park. Here you stay comfortably in the heart of the mountains, with cozy beds, a café, a small shop and views that are truly hard to beat.

View details

We are located by Lake Akkajaure, next to the Ritsem Sami settlement. On the opposite shore rises the queen of Lapland, the Áhkká mountain massif. Reaching 2,015 metres above sea level, her peaks and glaciers are reflected in the lake’s surface, leaving a powerful impression on the entire landscape. From the highest summit down to the lake stretches Sweden’s greatest vertical drop – more than 1,500 metres.

There is plenty to discover all year round. In winter, you can cross the lake on skis or by snowmobile, while summer offers hiking, fishing and relaxation in a magnificent mountain setting. Settle down at the small café for a break or buy some smoked fish to take with you, follow the Padjelanta Trail two kilometres to STF Akka Mountain Cabin, or enjoy a refreshing dip at the swimming spot with rocks and a babbling stream just 300 metres from the accommodation. For keen anglers, the rapids of Vuojatätno await – please note that the fishing permit is valid from the western shore only.

A visit to the church hut at the Sami settlement in Vaisaluokta is highly recommended. A popular church weekend is held here every year in early July. For those seeking a real challenge, there is the option to climb Kallaktjåkka on the Ritsem side of Lake Akkajaure – a demanding full-day hike that in winter is rewarded with a long and enjoyable descent. If you prefer a gentler outing, there are pleasant trails leading up towards Stuor Sievgok, northwest of Ritsem.

With easy access to Padjelanta, the Áhkká massif, the Border Trail and Sarek, STF Ritsem is an ideal base for both peaceful mountain experiences and more demanding adventures, whatever the season.
