STF Saltoluokta Mountain station
Gorgeous accommodation right in world heritage Laponia
About the accommodationThe STF Saltoluokta mountain station lies beyond the reach of roads, close to the World Heritage site Laponia and the limitless national parks of Stora Sjöfallet and Sarek. Ever since 1912 people have been coming here to enjoy life in the mountains and draw inspiration from the natural world.
The mountain station consists of the main building and four guest houses with a total of just over 100 beds. The timbered main building from 1918 has the old charm intact with fireplaces and candles.
In our KRAV-labeled restaurant you can eat breakfast buffet, lunch and dinner. You can also buy for lunch packages for your day trip, which you make yourself during breakfast. Feel free to pre-book your meals online or via firstname.lastname@example.org and state at the same time if you want a special diet. The restaurant serves local venison, char, and smoked whitefish from the lake below the station. Of course we always have good vegetarian and vegan options! If you want to cook your own food, we offer a well-equipped self-catering kitchen with refrigerator where you can store your groceries during your stay.
To get to and from Saltoluokta in winter, you have to cross Lake Langas along the marked ice trail, about 3.5 kilometers long. We offer snowmobile transport in connection with departure and arrival times of the bus. See more information about times and ticket prices under “Find here”.
In the summer we drive the boat M / S Langas across the lake, that also is adapted to the bus. Read more here: www.swedishtouristassociation.com/facilities/st…
A visit to Saltoluokta mountain station gives you the opportunity to experience one of the finest pieces of the Swedish mountain world. We are located right on the edge of the large Laponia World Heritage Site, with Stora Sjöfallet and Sarek National Parks nearby. The Laponia area is a world heritage site due to its incredible natural beauty but also for the thousands of years of Sami culture that still lives on in the area and makes its mark on it.
Many stay with us as part of a longer hike. Maybe you started in Kvikkjokk and for a few days walked north, and on the way passed Aktse and the famous Skierfe cliff with a view of the Rapadalen. Or you have started in Ritsem or Suorva and walked through Sarek National Park to finally reach Saltoluokta, with a long-awaited shower and a good dinner. You can also start in Abisko, follow the Kungsleden south to Vakkotavare and from there take the bus to Kebnatsbryggan and Saltoluokta. Or why not just come here for a few days, stay nice and eat well, and go on day trips on the bare mountains? No matter how you want to experience your mountains, Saltoluokta is here, as an end goal or as a stop on the way. Or you start your trip right here, with a couple of days of good food, beautiful views and a wood-fired sauna before you venture into the wilderness!
