About the accommodation

STF Sitasjaure has a wonderful view across the mountains and the Sitasjaure lake. Reflections in the lake cover the spectrum from turquoise to black, depending on the prevailing weather. Close to the mountain cabin is a Sàmi camp and several old Sàmi sacrificial sites.

Feel free to stay a few days and enjoy the quietness on shorter and longer tours. Not many automobiles travel on the gated road from Ritsem, but if you are lucky, you can get a ride if your legs gives out.

Ancient sites of the Stalo people can be found along the trail between Sitasjaure and Hukejaure. According to Sámi myth, the Stalo were ruthless, big, one-eyed, light skinned and clothed in iron armour. Wow!

Payment by card is accepted at STF Sitasjaure. Swish service only with Telenorsubscription.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Travel options
STF Sitasjaure is located about 22 km north of Ritsem. In summer, there is a road from Ritsem to Sitasjaure. The road is equipped with barriers, and only authorized traffic is allowed. If you hike to STF Sitasjaure, you can either follow the road or take the slightly longer and older summer trail that crosses the mountains to the west of the road.

In winter, there is a frequently used trail that largely runs along the unploughed road from Ritsem to STF Sitasjaure.

It is easiest to get to Ritsem by bus from Gällivare, from where there are daily rail connections from Stockholm and other cities. It is a good idea to book train and bus travel in advance on the same Resplus ticket. If you want to book only the bus journey, you can do so at www.roadtoritsem.com/

Länstrafiken in Norrbotten no longer services the route between Gällivare and Ritsem.
