In winter, skiing along the river is a fantastic experience, with bubbling open water and perfect lunch spots to discover. In summer, you can spot beautiful orchids, and in autumn, the area is rich with chanterelles to pick. This place was once a traditional Sámi settlement where a school was run in earlier times. Even today, turf huts remain in the area, along with traces of old reindeer enclosures in the birch forest.
Stensdalsstugan is located in roadless terrain, 13 km west of Vålådalen in the Vålådalen Nature Reserve and within the Handölsdalen Sámi village. From the cabin, you can take excursions to Lillstensdalfjället, Storstensdalen, and Östra Bunnerskalet. Down by the Stensån river, you might spot white-throated dippers diving to the bottom in search of food in the rushing water. Stensån is also perfect for a refreshing dip after a hot sauna, both in summer and winter.
