About the accommodation

Långholmen Hotel was once a prison. So you probably wonder if you’re really going to stay in a cell? Is anything served apart from bread and water? The hotel is housed in the old Crown Prison, which was built in the early 19th century.

In the middle of the building is the attractive gallery dating from 1866. This has given us the hotel’s beautiful, open atrium. In 1975, the last prisoner was discharged and in May 1989 we opened the hotel after two years’ renovation work. The cells are now pleasingly and functionally furnished, each with its own shower, WC, telephone, wireless Internet access, radio and cable TV.
We have 89 single and 13 double cells, of which 10 have facilities for the disabled.
All our cells are smokefree.
The old prison entrance hall has been converted into a reception, with a cafeteria open 24 hours a day.
Times change, and staying in a cell is now a captivating experience. We promise to give you your own key, and that breakfast consists of more than bread and water.

    The accommodation is fully accessible according to STF’s requirements. These range from wide doorways, to vibrating fire alarms and high contrast markings. We have chosen to prioritize disabilities based on movement, hearing and vision – including guide dogs and assistance dogs. If you are wondering whether the accommodation meets your needs, we recommend that you contact them before booking to find out more specifically what they can offer.

    By bus & subway
    From T-centralen, take the subway, the red line 14 towards Liljeholmen. Get off at Hornstull. From Hornstull, it is about an 11-minute walk to Långholmen's hotel.

    By car
    The E4 from the north, take the exit at Hornsberg. Follow the signs for Södermalm, take the first right after Västerbron (Högalidsgatan). Then take the first right again.
    The E4 from the south, take the exit at Södermalm. Drive over Liljeholmsbron towards Hornstull, continue on Långholmsgatan, turn right before Västerbron. Then take the first left and the first left again. Drive over the Långholm Bridge. Turn left and follow the wall towards the Kronohäktet entrance. A number of parking spaces are available within the facility's walls.
