The mountain cabin is a good starting point for a visit to the old mining area Sjangeli, four kilometres north. Mining was conducted here from the end of the 1600s until 1840.
The mining town is nicely located near the beach of a lake and the view towards the Norwegian mountains to the west is fantastic. Today, wood barracks, a stone house and pit reminds us of this era in mining. Gabna Sámi village has a summer camp nearby. Socially structured, a Sámi village or siida is a reindeer foraging area, a group for reindeer herding and a corporation working for the economic benefit of its members all in one.

During the Second World War, the cabin was a refuge for the Norwegian resistance movement. Designated Sepal 2 “Anna”, this place was used to plan sabotage and carry out espionage on German activities in the area on the other side of the border.

This mountain cabin accepts payment by card or with cash, no service for Swish.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Travel options
STF Unna Allaka's is close to the Norwegian border, approx. 39 km southwest of Abisko. The easiest way to get here is via the trail from STF Abiskojaure. The cabin can also be reached from STF Alesjaure.

In summer, if you have a car or access to transport, you can reach Unna Allakas from Norway via the road that leads up the mountain from Skjomen. The distance from the end of the road to Unna Allakas, via DNT's cabin at Cunojavri, is approx. 13 km. Note that the road up the mountain is not open in winter.

Another option is to start in Katterjåkk, but the distance from there is about 30 km and in most cases requires an overnight stay in your own tent along the way.
