About the accommodation

STF Vålåstugan lies on a slope where the forest meets the mountains, with views over lakes and mires. From here, hiking trails lead in five directions, including towards Stensdalen, Helags, Lunndörren and Vålådalen.

There are two guest cabins with a total of 44 beds. The large cabin has six four-bed rooms with a total of 24 beds, a host’s room and a shop selling food, drinks, sweets and toiletries (Large selection). The old cabin has two guest rooms with a total of 20 beds. Each room has a kitchen, a wood-burning stove and two sleeping alcoves next to the kitchen. One of the kitchens also serves as a room for dog owners and a safety room with an emergency phone. Behind the cabin there is space for several dog sled teams.

Mobile coverage is poor at the site, but just above the cabin there is coverage for operators that use the Telia network. There are fine camping spots around the cabins. There is no sauna, but in summer you can bathe at Sturebadet in the stream, about 100 metres below the large cabin.

There are good fishing waters nearby, and you can arrange a fishing licence on site. If you enjoy fishing, Kroktjärnarna is a good destination. You can also take a variety of shorter mountain hikes from here, and south of the bridge over Härjångsån there are rich stands of orchids and other mountain flowers. Tracks of predators are not uncommon.

The area also has a long history. Around Vålåsjön there are traces of Stone Age settlements and prehistoric burial sites. Copper was mined for a period in the 1800s on the southern slope of Gruvsmällen, and traces of the mining remain. Three kilometres west of the cabin are small water-filled mine pits and the remains of a stone miners’ hut.

STF Vålåstugan is located southwest of Vålådalen and is part of so-called Vålådalsfyrkanten, or “Vålådalen rectangle”. It is easiest to get here via Vålådalen, located about 20 km from Vålåstugan.

Car parking is available in Vålådalen. You can also go by train to Undersåker and continue from there by bus. For more information, see valadalen.se/en/
