Grövelsjön - Storrödtjärn
From STF Grövelsjön Mountain Station, you walk northeastwards over the Långfjället. On the Långfjället, you will pass an information board about Linné’s meeting with falcon trappers in 1734. You can see the remains of an old falcon trapping station here. The highest point of this stretch is (after just) already after five kilometres, south of Jakobshöjden. From here you will have magnificent views over the Storvätteshogna – Svealand’s highest mountain, which rises to 1,204 metres above sea level. After that the trail slopes gently downhill towards Hävlingen.
After about eight kilometres, you will reach Särsjöbäcken. Särsjöbäcken mountain shelter is located a few hundred metres to the east (by the winter trail). There is a fabulous view over Töfsingdalen National Park and down towards Hävlingen, with the Slagufjället in the background. There are mountain cabins in Hävlingen where you can stay overnight – they require booking in advance.
The trail towards Storrödtjärn continues on a moraine ridge between Hävlingen, where there is an abundance of char, and the Särsjön. After a section in the forest and a kilometre on the bare mountainside, it goes uphill again towards the Slagusjön wind shelter. The last stretch to STF Storrödtjärn in Långfjället nature reserve is rough in parts.
