Nedalshyttan - Sylarna
This is the most dramatic stretch of the route around the Sylarna mountains. The narrow Ekorrdörren mountain pass, the magnificent views of the Syl massif and what is almost a sacral feeling when you contemplate the Tempeldalen valley make this an unforgettable walk in an area with distinctly alpine characteristics.
The trail starts with easy terrain, first over marshland, then over dry plains with the slopes of the Syl massif on the north side. Once past the reindeer fence at the national border, you proceed over easy ground up towards the distinctive Ekorrdörren, which is a narrow pass with steep rock faces.
When you have passed a mountain shelter, the trail continues northwards, climbing steeply with 260 metres’ height gain. Once up there, you traverse the western slope of the Sylskalstöten before walking gently upwards on dry, firm ground. The Tempeldalen valley opens in front of you like a deep u-shaped pot between the Slottet and the Templet. After the junction of paths, if you look towards Helags, you’ll get a glimpse of the STF Sylarna Mountain Station a couple of kilometres in the distance.
