Ammarnäs – STF Aigert
This is a short stage – just 8 kilometres – but the path’s ascent is considerably steep. As you approach the open mountainside, you have a view over a vast landscape to the north – considered by many to be one of the most fantastic views along the whole of the Kungsleden walking trail.
The trail starts in Ammarnäs at the bridge over the Vindelälven river. After a few hundred metres of gravel track to a turning area, the Kungsleden trail goes up through the birch forest again. Halfway up the barren mountain fell, the summer trail runs in a westerly direction with a beautiful view of the Ammarnäs delta. The STF Aigert Mountain Cabin is located directly above the treeline on a hill next to a little lake. If you want to camp, there are some excellent campsites opposite STF Aigert on the other side of the lake.
This is a reindeer herding area, so walkers are asked to treat it with respect and consideration.
