Walking trail in autumn colours

Storulvån - STF Gåsen

The hike from Storulvån to STF Gåsen starts with a well-used path that takes you to the bridge across Handölan. After the bridge, a gravel path takes you to the Tjallingen Sámi settlement, where the mountain birch forest becomes less dense. It’s necessary to wade a short distance, before the trail continues onwards to the Tjallingå stream, which you cross by bridge.

To reach the shelter at Gåsen, follow Handölan upstream along an attractive and easy stretch. Bridges and wooden walkways make it easy to cross watercourses and marshy areas. The hike becomes slightly more demanding after the shelter, as you gain significant height. The final kilometre to STF Gåsen, however, is again reasonably flat.

The mountain cabin is one of the highest situated in Sweden, and offers a wonderful panorama across the Sylarna and Helags mountains.

Reindeer husbandry is carried out throughout the region, and visitors must show respect for this.
