The lighthouse was manned in 1909 with a lighthouse master, keeper and assistant. At its busiest, 21 people lived here and a school was set up in the attic. From 1952, the lighthouse master managed the site alone, and in 1963 the lighthouse was automated. Högbonden is full of stories. Visit the mini museum to learn more.

Barsta Chapel
Barsta Chapel stands on a hill in the old fishing village of Barsta. Initiated in 1654 by the Nordingrå vicar Nikolaus Bozaeus, construction began in 1665 with local and Gävle fishermen responsible. When completed ten years later, the beautifully decorated chapel served both religious and practical functions – tools and nets were stored in the ceiling over winter, and some of the original hooks remain.
