STF will guide to Kebnekaise via the Western Route

In summer 2025, the Swedish Tourist Association (STF) will guide all summit tours to both the southern and northern peaks of Kebnekaise via the Western Route, instead of the traditional Eastern Route. This decision applies for the 2025 season and is based on changing environmental conditions in the mountain terrain that affect the Eastern Route.

Current snow conditions in the mountains

Snow conditions in the mountains are currently variable. In several areas, the snow cover is thin or uneven, which can make nordic backcountry skiing difficult. This primarily affects the mountain regions around Helags, Vålådalen, Lunndörren, Anaris, and Oviken mountains, as well as Sonfjället.

Kebnekaise mountain station and cabins resuming regular operations

On August 18th, we are resuming regular operations at Kebnekaise Mountain Station and the mountain cabins along the northern King’s Trail.
