Stay by the Sea at Råkulle Hostel in Brantevik
At Råkulle Hostel in Brantevik, you’ll stay right by the sea, next to the Skåneleden Trail and all the exciting experiences that Österlen has to offer. Brantevik is a charming little fishing village with several restaurants and cafés—some even listed in the White Guide. Some are seasonal, while others are open year-round. It’s a good idea to check opening hours and book a table in advance if you have a specific place in mind. Just a stone’s throw from the hostel, you can treat yourself to a coffee, a glass of wine, or a delicious meal. Skåne is also Sweden’s premier food region, and in summer, you’ll find a wealth of farm shops selling everything from vegetables, cheeses, and sausages to lambskins, spices, and handicrafts.
Cycling and Hiking
The scenic surroundings offer plenty of opportunities for beautiful hikes and bike rides. Biking along the small country roads feels like a wonderful adventure—you never know what might appear around the next bend or beyond the next house. Bring your own bike or rent one on-site.
Österlen is a hiking paradise, perfect for both beginners and experienced trekkers. You’ll find lush beech forests, rolling hills, and miles of sandy beaches—along with quaint fishing villages, open pastures, and stunning views of the sea and horizon. A hike along the Österlen coast offers a beautiful and varied landscape with historical sites and rich flora and fauna.
Attractions
For rainy days—or those that are too sunny—there are plenty of indoor activities to enjoy as well. In the village, you’ll find the Brantevik Maritime Museum, open during summer, where you can learn about the area’s seafaring heyday. Also in Brantevik, you’ll find Sweden’s longest “tall tale bench” and the country’s smallest library. In Simrishamn, visit the Österlen Museum and Autoseum—a favorite for car lovers. Tjörnedala Art Gallery in Baskemölla is a cultural hub for art and creativity. For those curious about rapeseed, cold-pressed oil, or even making your own oil, a visit to Gunnarshögs Gård is a must. At Råkulle Hostel, guests can enjoy card and board games, a well-stocked bookshelf, and of course, free Wi-Fi.
Events
Österlen offers a variety of events, starting in early spring with the popular Art Tour (Konstrundan), where over a hundred artists open their studios. During summer, Brantevik hosts “Music Under the Stars,” featuring artists from all over Sweden in outdoor concerts. In late September, the Apple Market in Kivik kicks off with all things apple—including the impressive Apple Art Mosaic of the Year. As All Saints’ Day approaches, “Österlen Lyser” brings light to the dark season with creativity, quirky events, and joyful community spirit.
