About the accommodation

This mountain cabin is one of the highest in Sweden, at 1100 metres above sea level, and lies in a barren and isolated mountain landscape. There is a magnificent panorama view across Sylarna and the Helags mountains, silhouetted against the horizon.

The cabin is the centre between mountain stations to the west and mountain cabins in the Vålådalen Nature Reserve. There is often snow in the area during the winter and the cabins can be difficult to find at a distance. For years, snow has remained right into the summer season.

Hiking trails go from Gåsen in five directions. In Gåsen, there is also an old hiking trail between the Sámi camp in Tjallingen and Ljungris
Gåsen’s peak and Härjångstöten, perhaps the most magnificent peak in the area, are tempting and challenging ascents.
At the peak, there is a box with a guest book for those who have gone all the way up. The western slope of Gåsen has rich, limestone flora.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.
