Skiing
Kittelfjäll is a paradise for winter lovers and has been named “Sweden’s best ski resort” several times. With steep slopes and vast off-piste terrain, it’s a haven for the adventurous skier. There are also many nearby peaks perfect for summit touring and alpine ski touring.
Nordic ski touring
For those seeking wilderness and less-travelled mountain trails, Kittelfjäll is the place to go. Well-marked and maintained trails offer access to untouched areas ideal for day trips or overnight stays in mountain cabins along the route. Ask at the hostel for more information, or find maps on platforms like Naturkartan or Destination Kittelfjäll.
Hiking
The area around Kittelfjäll is rich in hiking trails through forest and high mountain terrain. Many trails are well-marked and easy to access directly from the hostel in the village centre. You can, for example, hike from Kittelfjäll to Fatmomakke or cross the famous Marsfjällen mountains to Marsliden. The Lapland Trail is a 190 km hiking route that connects with the King’s Trail in Hemavan and stretches south all the way to Borgafjäll.
Summit touring
With the steep mountains surrounding Kittelfjäll, there are plenty of options for summit hikes. From the village, you can ascend the majestic Borkafjäll, the gentler Grönfjäll, or even the queen herself – Kittelfjället!
Via Ferrata
For the truly adventurous, there is a Via Ferrata route in Kittelfjäll – arguably one of the most scenic climbing spots in the world! The route winds its way up Lebnjiesnuenie, facing the vertical cliffs of Borkafjället, and rewards climbers with a magical view over the valley from the top.
Day trips in the area
For a slower pace, there are plenty of options for easier day trips. Walk along the Vojmå trail through the winding valley, read about local plants, and join a mobile quiz along the way.
For families, the easy and exciting Story Trail is a great option. This trail also follows the Vojmån River and introduces local legends and folklore. Spot painted animals and mythical creatures hidden in the forest together with your kids.
Fishing
The Vojmån River runs through Kittelfjäll, and the Upper Vojmådalen area boasts hundreds of lakes, creeks and streams with excellent fishing. The flowing and still waters offer deep pools and varied conditions. Vojmån is home to some of Sweden’s best grayling fishing, often caught with a fly rod. You might also land a large trout. Further west lies the Vapstälven River, flowing from Lake Virisen toward Norway and the Atlantic. It is home to large Atlantic-type trout.

Visit a Sámi settlement
The Sámi heritage is strong around Kittelfjäll and you can visit several Sámi settlements. In Grönfjäll, you’ll find Klitvallen; nearby Fättjaur is home to the Silisen settlement, with a turf hut and preserved storage cabins.
On the way to Klimpfjäll, you can visit the famous church village of Fatmomakke, where Sámi families gathered for religious celebrations. The village is well-preserved with traditional homes and a beautiful church. You can also hike from Kittelfjäll to Fatmomakke.
Cycling
Kittelfjäll is a fantastic place for cycling. Discover fun and family-friendly trails along the Vojmån River or explore the scenic valley roads – ideal for longer rides with your gravel or road bike.
Paddling and boat trips
If you want to fish or just enjoy nature, there are both lakes and flowing rivers near Kittelfjäll to explore by canoe or boat. Join a guided tour along Vojmån to look for beavers, or paddle across Lake Borka and hike from Twin Creeks up to Borkan’s summit. You can rent canoes, kayaks, and boats with electric motors from places like Camp Kittelfjäll or Grönfjälls Fritidsby.
