Möja – the island on the horizon

Möja is located in the outer part of Stockholm’s mid-archipelago, right where the rugged outer archipelago begins. Travel here from Stockholm city with Cinderella or Waxholmsbolaget boats. If you rent a kayak on Möja, you’ll reach nature reserves east of the island in just minutes. Experienced paddlers will find the open sea not far away!

You can also buy a Waxholmsbolaget island-hopping pass and stop at several fantastic islands on your way to or from Möja – how about Grinda, Gällnö, Ingmarsö, Finnhamn, Husarö, Svartsö or Sandhamn?

Hiking and cycling

Stora Möja, with its well-maintained gravel roads, is ideal for cycling and walking. A good road runs from north to south. The island has a school, grocery store, restaurants, and accommodation open year-round. In summer, more restaurants, an ice cream kiosk, craft shops, a dance pavilion, and museums open.

There are several nature trails, including a beautiful old-growth forest and a fantastic nature reserve in the middle of the island. Möja also has three small lakes. Trails are marked with yellow ribbons – the longer one (12 km) runs between Hamn and Ramsmora, the shorter one (3.5 km) between the dance pavilion and the ostrich farm.

The country road is perfect for walking, running, or cycling. We rent out 3-speed city bikes with baskets, cargo bikes, and kids’ bikes – helmets included of course. Want to get out on the water? Sea kayaks and taxi boats are also available. Some restaurants are open year-round – read more at visitmoja.se (opens in new tab).

In Möjaström, the hostel owners also run the adventure company MÖJA OUTDOOR (opens in new tab) where you can rent kayaks, boats, SUPs, or join seal and sea eagle safaris and boat excursions.
