Welcome to Nääs and Nääs slott, a unique blend of nature and culture right between the big city and the countryside. Nääs is the best-preserved late 19th-century environment in Scandinavia, and a national architectural monument with a rich history. The first humans came to Nääs as early as the Late Bronze Age, and the property owners have been recorded since the late 16th century. August Abrahamson was the last private owner of Nääs. Together with his nephew Otto Salomen he founded what would become a world renowned crafts seminary at Nääs. Writers Sophie Elkan, August’s niece, and Selma Lagerlöf, also spent many summers at Nääs. In the book “Nils Holgersson’s wonderful journey through Sweden”, an entire chapter is devoted to describing life at Nääs around the turn of the last century. Today, the Nääs estate is owned and managed by the private August Abrahamsons foundation.

Nääs is incredibly scenically located. Throughout the seasons, the water in Sävelången Lake provides a magical setting for the castle, as it sits on the headland surrounded by side buildings and a castle park. Opposite, the architecturally interesting wooden buildings of the crafts seminary are visible, warmly embedded in the greenery of the park. At Nääs the whispers of history are always present, while the grounds are alive and current. Today, Nääs is still one of Sweden’s largest organizers of courses in crafts, building maintenance, arts and crafts and folk culture. The area has a building maintenance shop with a library, and a series of events and exhibitions with high-quality craftsmanship are held during the year. The castle itself is unchanged since 1898, and the guided tour welcomes you to a journey back in time. In addition to Nääs slott itself, the area surrounding Nääs is full of interesting historical locations, including Jonsered gardens, the cultural heritage of Tollered and the factories of Nääs. The big city of Gothenburg is easily reachable on a day trip. Active guests can enjoy the Natura 2000 marked nature reserve and the beautiful Gotaleden hiking trail is just waiting to be explored.

At Nääs slott you stay in unique, historic buildings at the castle grounds or in the craft seminary area. All buildings are individually and personally decorated in turn-of-the-century style, and the charming rooms have comfortable beds waiting for you in a warm and welcoming environment. Every accommodation room and building is completely smoke and pet free.

Check-in is at 3 pm and check-out at 11 am in Nääs Slottsbod.
