The accommodation’s home page: STF Saltoluokta Mountain station

Looking for the perfect outdoorsy family holiday? Saltoluokta Mountain Station offers fantastic opportunities for both young and old.

With forest, mountains and lake right outside the door, all tours and activities can be adapted to suit your ability and interests.

In this roadless land, nature is always close. Perhaps the biggest adventure will be sledding behind the service building, drinking fresh water from a stream, or visiting the nearly two-metre-high anthill. Maybe you’ll make it all the way up to the open mountain, or perhaps you’ll be happiest with a book by the fire in the lounge. Didn’t bring a book? No worries — we’ve transformed the old phone booth into a mini-library where you’ll find what you need.

Outdoors

  • Around the station, you’ll find plenty of places for alpine ski touring or hiking. Take a stroll in the forest, along the scenic loop, or up to the mountain plateau. Difficulty and distance can be adjusted based on your ability and energy.
  • In summer, don’t miss the lakefront. Balance on the rocks, skip stones or dip your toes in the ice-cold mountain water — all with a stunning view in the background.
  • Want to summit a peak? The closest one is 3 kilometres and 200 metres of elevation away, offering panoramic mountain views. Want to go farther or higher? We have peaks for everyone! Just ask at reception.
  • When the snow is deep, borrow a sled, toboggan or snow shovel. Go for a ride behind the service building or build the snow fortress of the century.

Indoors

  • Warm up by the fire with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate. The fire in the entrance hall is always lit.
  • At the top of the stairs to the right, you’ll find a door marked “Telefon”. A phone, you might think — but no, it’s a library filled with books for both children and adults.
  • Ready for a board game? Come to reception and borrow one. We have playing cards, pick-up sticks, chess, Scrabble, the Knight’s Game and many more.
  • Feeling creative? Paper and pencils are available to borrow.
