Experience history at Siaröfortet
Do you want to feel the echoes of history and breathe the raw air from a time when coastal defense was crucial? Then visit the Siaröfortet museum, a military fortress that began construction during the First World War. With its strategic location in the fairway towards Vaxholm, Kyrkogårdsön was considered the perfect place to defend the archipelago town from attack.
However, by the time the fort was completed, it was already outdated and was mainly used for training exercises. After being abandoned since the 1960s, the fort has now been carefully restored close to its original state and is open to visitors.
Here, you can wander among mighty cannons, trenches, and truly sense the presence of history. In the underground halls of the fort, you will find everything from a combat command center to kitchens and barracks, originally intended to house up to 500 men during wartime. The fort offers a fascinating glimpse into the coastal defense strategies of the past and is an exciting experience for both adults and children.
