The accommodation’s home page: STF Grövelsjön Mountain station

Sometimes the simplest adventures become the most memorable ones — like drinking straight from a mountain stream, turning fallen trees into an obstacle course or cooking over an open fire. Grövelsjön makes the perfect starting point for a outdoorsy family vacation.

Outdoors

The trolls on the Troll Trail and giant Jacob’s forest friends live along a loop just over 1 kilometre long. There’s always a new creature to spot in the woods. Bring some snacks and take a break at the witch Agatha’s spot — she’ll be glad you came!

Do you dare test your balance in the trolls’ own adventure park? Walk the slackline, stand on one leg or hop between stumps. Find a buddy and try the seesaw!

If the ski trail feels too tame, Back-Filippa’s ski park might be more your style. Challenge your friends in the ski playground!

Push yourself and develop your skiing skills with the Swedish Ski Association’s ski badges. Ask at reception for details about the requirements. You complete the activities at your own pace, and an adult approves that you’ve completed the necessary tasks. The badges are available for purchase in reception.

Take a break and grill something tasty at one of our barbecue spots. Firewood and charcoal can be bought in the shop.

Borrow a sled or a kicksled and go for a ride.

Indoors

Use your imagination to craft your own Grövelsjö troll in the mountain station’s Troll Workshop, using recycled materials and paint!

Downstairs in the main building you’ll find the children’s playroom — complete with climbing wall, foosball, a play cave and toys for both young and older kids.

There’s a ping-pong table for anyone up for a match or a round of “around the world”.

Borrow a board game or pick a book from the red lounge and read by the fire.

Fun for the whole family

Make your way to the Olån wind shelter — a lovely destination in both summer and winter! The shelter is located about halfway along a popular circular route heading toward the Norwegian border. Bring firewood so you can grill at the scenic rest area. In summer, you’ll also pass the beautiful Silverfallet waterfall, where you can take a refreshing dip!

Hike the varied Nature Trail, which takes you over 4 kilometres through both denser mountain forest and out onto open fell. Along the way, you’ll find posted questions and learn more about nature and the area.

Take a boat trip across Grövelsjön to the Norwegian side with the M/S Sylöra, which runs daily throughout most of the summer season. You can either explore on the Norwegian side and return by boat — or hike the 9 kilometres back, partly following the same path that Carl Linnaeus travelled through the area in the 18th century.

Nearby Jakobshöjden offers stunning views across the border into Norway. Hike all the way from the mountain station to the summit and back (7 kilometres), or just go part of the way — even from lower down on the open fell, you’ll get a glimpse of the neighbouring country.
