The accommodation’s home page: STF Saltoluokta Mountain station

To visit STF Saltoluokta Mountain Station, you first travel to Kebnats by train and bus or by car, and then continue across Lake Langas by boat, snowmobile or skis.

Train

During 2026, extensive railway maintenance work will affect train services in northern Sweden. On this page, you can see how train traffic is affected on the specific day you plan to travel (opens in new tab). Please note that additional tickets are released gradually due to the railway maintenance planning.

SJ operates daily overnight trains from Stockholm to Gällivare. You disembark in Gällivare. Make sure your arrival matches the Ritsem bus (opens in new tab), which operates 1–2 times per day depending on the season.

If you travel by train, we recommend booking the bus journey from Gällivare through the train operator as well. This way, the train company is responsible for missed connections between train and bus. If you only book a ticket to Gällivare, delays may mean you need to stay overnight in Gällivare before continuing by bus the following day. The final stop is called Kebnats/Saltoluokta.

Bus

During the summer season, buses operate between Gällivare and Kebnats. The bus connections are coordinated with the arrival of the overnight train from the south. During low season, the bus operates once daily, while during high season it operates twice daily. Bus tickets are easiest to purchase together with your train ticket. Search for the station “Kebnats/Saltoluokta”. The summer bus timetable is available at www.roadtoritsem.com (opens in new tab).

As one of the overnight trains terminates in Umeå during summer, an additional bus service operates between Umeå and Gällivare from 1 July to 16 August, connecting with the bus towards Kebnats and Ritsem. More information is available here (opens in new tab).

Car

If you are travelling by car, follow the E45 and turn onto Vägen Västerut approximately 6 km north of Porjus. After 78 km, you will arrive at Kebnats/Saltoluokta, where parking is available.

Taxi

If there are no suitable bus departures, it is possible to travel by taxi between Gällivare and Kebnats/Saltoluokta. Sverigetaxi Gällivare operates the route with advance booking by phone at +46 970 10 000 or through their app (opens in new tab). A large taxi for up to eight passengers costs SEK 5 370 one way, while a smaller car for up to four passengers costs SEK 3 360 one way.

Boat transport Kebnats-Saltoluokta

During the summer season, your mountain adventure begins with a scenic boat journey from Kebnats to Saltoluokta Mountain Station aboard M/S Langas. Please note that the boat crossing is not included in the accommodation price or the bus ticket.

The boat accommodates around 70 passengers and the journey takes approximately 15 minutes. From the Saltoluokta jetty, it is then about 200 metres uphill to the Mountain Station.

When tickets become available for booking, you can purchase your ticket online here. You can also pay for your ticket directly on board. Seating is guaranteed on the boat, but we still recommend pre-booking your ticket.

Timetable M/S Langas

See timetable for M/S Langas here. Departure times are coordinated with arriving and departing buses.

If you arrive in Kebnats by bus, the bus stop is located only a couple of hundred metres from the boat jetty. We meet all arriving and departing buses according to the bus operator’s timetable. In the event of a delayed bus, we wait 15–30 minutes depending on the scheduled departure. Please let us know if the bus is delayed longer than this and we will help you arrange alternative transport. The boat operates according to the timetable even on days when the bus is not running.

A free parking area is located approximately 100 metres from the jetty in Kebnats..

Snowmobile transport Kebnats–Saltoluokta

To get to and from Saltoluokta in winter, you’ll cross Lake Langas along the marked ice trail that’s about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) long. STF Saltoluokta Mountain Station offers snowmobile transport for a fee, in line with the departure and arrival times of the bus. You must pre-book the transport by phone, email, or at the reception desk at least an hour before departure. Payment is made at the reception desk. Snowmobile transport times match the bus timetable arrival and departure times. When snowmobiling, you should be warmly dressed and preferably wear a scarf or ski goggles to protect your face.

Prefer to ski or walk across without any baggage? No problem, as a guest at the mountain station, you can send your baggage on a snowmobile free of charge. A great way to start your stay! But remember to never deviate from the marked trail as it could be life-threatening.
