Enjoy peaceful and restful moments on the estate or head out on a journey of discovery through Småland’s beautiful landscapes and charming small towns. Nature around Skillingaryd is easily accessible and invites hiking, cycling, fishing and swimming.

Hiking

Store Mosse National park is one of southern Sweden’s most unique and spectacular natural areas and perhaps the most well-known area for hiking, with its vast mires and forests. There are more than 40 kilometres of marked trails here, ranging from short walks to longer day hikes. The trails pass through a fascinating landscape, often along boardwalks that make it easy to get around even in wet terrain. Particularly popular is the Svartgölsleden trail, where you hike across the mire and may spot both birds and wildlife. For those who want a longer hike, Wibecksleden offers a mix of forest and open views. There is also a Naturum visitor centre that provides more information and where you can observe birdlife through the large panoramic window.

It is also possible to hike a section of Munkaleden, a 40-kilometre pilgrimage trail between Nydala and Byarum. Stiftsgården Tallnäs is located midway between the two. Munkaleden can easily be divided into two days, with a stop at Tallnäs where you can enjoy a good meal and spend the night before continuing your hike the following day. Here you can also get a stamp in your pilgrim passport, or receive a new one if you do not already have one.

For those who prefer a shorter hike, Rusarebo Äng is recommended, a small and scenic nature reserve with a circular trail through flowering meadows and rich birdlife.

Culture and history

Explore the charming small towns of Skillingaryd and Värnamo. Skillingaryd, with its scenic river and surrounding forests, offers both military history and art. Skillingaryds skjutfält is a unique landscape with unusual plant species and an intriguing history. Visit the Krigshistoriska museet to delve deeper into the town’s past. Götaströms Konsthall displays modern art and local exhibitions for those seeking inspiration.

Värnamo is a charming small town with a rich cultural life, featuring several museums and art galleries. The town also has a strong tradition of furniture and industrial design, which is reflected in both exhibitions and the urban environment. The town centre is compact and easy to explore, with small shops, cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy local food and fika. Apladalen, the town’s green park and cultural reserve, is a popular spot for walks, play and events. Here you will find historic buildings and the chance to meet animals such as goats and sheep.

Vandalorum is a well-known art and design museum located just outside Värnamo. The museum is an architectural landmark, designed by Italian architect Renzo Piano and built in a style inspired by traditional Småland barns with their red wooden façades. Vandalorum is a meeting place for art, design and culture, showcasing exhibitions by contemporary artists and designers from Sweden and abroad.

Bruno Mathsson-museet in Värnamo is dedicated to the world-renowned furniture designer and architect Bruno Mathsson, who was born in Värnamo in 1907. The museum is located in his hometown and is a must for anyone interested in Swedish design. The museum consists of two parts: Bruno Mathsson’s own villa and his glass house, both designed by Mathsson himself. The museum is open during the summer and for special events.
