Sustainability
Väderöarna’s unique nature, both above and below the surface, requires care and respect. As a nature reserve and home to one of Sweden’s two living coral reefs, this is a place that places high demands on how the hotel is run and on you as a guest.
Freshwater is scarce. In the past, rainwater was collected. Today, seawater is desalinated and filtered at the harbour facility. Tap water is safe to drink, but should be used with care, only a limited amount can be produced each day.
All wastewater is purified in a dedicated treatment plant, which turns it into compostable matter that is transported back to the mainland. The system is sensitive, so only specific cleaning agents may be used.
In the kitchen, local and seasonal ingredients are used as much as possible. By working with what’s available each day instead of a large à la carte menu, the restaurant reduces waste and maintains a sustainable kitchen.
