Tent and service fees
Camping in the mountains while hiking is free. However, if you want access to guest kitchens, drying rooms, showers, saunas, or other facilities at STF's mountain cabins and stations, you will need to pay a service fee. On this page, we clarify what applies for your next mountain hike with a tent.
Why does it cost?
Nice camping spots are often available both next to and a bit away from STF’s accommodations in the mountains. If you plan to use the facilities at any of our mountain stations and cabins, a fee called the “service fee” applies. This fee is paid either if you camp near an accommodation or are passing by during the day. The facilities that are subject to a fee are guest kitchens, showers, drying rooms, saunas, and other spaces. Outdoor toilets are free for everyone to use. It is also fine to leave storable and sorted waste. However, it is important that we all help minimize the amount of waste in the mountains. You can read more about that here.
If you have booked your accommodation at either a mountain cabin or a mountain station, the service fee is included in the price.
If you do not intend to use STF’s services during your camping trip, please leave the camping spots closest to the mountain stations and cabins for those who will use the services. This will make it easier for other campers and ensure that everyone has the space they need.
So why do we charge a service fee? It is because we need to maintain our properties, ensure there is water and sewage at the mountain stations, provide propane and wood at the mountain cabins, handle the waste left by hikers at the mountain cabins and mountain stations, and enable transport of materials such as toilet paper among other things.
By paying the service fee, you are helping to make the mountain areas accessible to everyone. Thank you for your contribution!
Service fee at mountain cabins and mountain stations
The above prices are member prices. If you are not a member, you pay an additional fee of 100 SEK (applies to both adults and youths).
The price applies per overnight stay and per camper who wishes to use the facilities such as guest kitchen, shower, drying room, sauna, and other areas. Camping spots cannot be reserved in advance and the fee is paid on site to the cabin host at mountain cabins and at the reception at mountain stations. You do not need to pay the service fee if you pay for an overnight stay at the accommodation.
Applies to all mountain cabins and the mountain stations Abisko, Kebnekaise, Saltoluokta, Storulvån, Sylarna, Blåhammaren, Helags, and Grövelsjön.
Service fee for day visitors without overnight stay at mountain cabins and mountain stations
The prices are member prices. If you are not a member, you pay an additional fee of 40 SEK (applies to both adults and youths).
The service fee applies to day visits between 11:00 and 15:00 at mountain cabins. During this time, day visitors may use facilities such as drying rooms, guest kitchens, and other shared spaces. The times may vary at mountain stations. Day visits cannot be pre-booked, and the fee is paid on-site. The service fee also applies to day visits for groups.
Tips for camping near an accommodation
Tents are usually not allowed to be set up closer than 150 meters from a building to reduce overcrowding and minimize fire risk. Please check with the reception at the mountain station or the cabin host at the mountain cabin for a suitable camping spot. You must also be careful not to set up your tent too close to the helicopter landing spot that are often located near our accommodations.
At our mountain stations, you can rent tents and equipment, which means you can take a day trip, spend the night, and then return. Perfect for those who haven’t camped much before.
