STF Strandvillan Lysekil

Beautiful seaside villa on the Bohuslän coast

Travel information

About the accommodation

Strandvillan Lysekil is a beautiful seaside hotel from 1894, with views over both the sea and the archipelago. Here, in the heart of Bohuslän, where the Gullmarsfjord meets the open sea, lies Lysekil – a place known for its bare granite cliffs and salty waters.

View details

At the turn of the century, Lysekil was one of Sweden’s most popular seaside destinations, and when Strandvillan was inaugurated, it was the grandest hotel in town. With the sea as a backdrop, the sight of the beautiful white wooden villa is still striking today. Here, you will find comfortable accommodation and turn-of-the-century charm.

The house has been gently renovated with period-style wallpaper, Jugend-style furniture, and traditional paneling. All rooms have private bathrooms, some even with their own glass verandas, sea views, and balconies. Just a few steps away, the sea awaits.

At Strandvillan, you can choose between hotel-style service with breakfast included, or the self-catering option using the cozy guest kitchen. Either way, the house offers a calm and welcoming atmosphere that invites you to stay a while. Of course, four-legged family members are welcome too, there are several dog-friendly rooms available.

Lysekil has something for everyone – young and old, friends, solo travelers and couples, business guests, conference groups, athletes, and nature lovers. Discover cliffs, sea, lush forests, and breathtaking hikes. From the red granite rocks of Stångehuvud to the clear waters of the Gullmarsfjord, which are perfect for kayaking or underwater exploration. Enjoy sauna sessions and cold baths at the local bathhouse from the turn of the century, breathe the fresh sea air, and savor Bohuslän’s rich seafood offerings.

Lysekil is wonderful year-round – maybe even at its best on a crisp winter day, a calm autumn afternoon, or a vibrant spring morning. Regardless of the season, you are warmly welcome as a guest at historic Strandvillan.

Sunny greetings!

    Travel information
If you’re traveling by public transport, take a train to Uddevalla. From Uddevalla travel center, buses are available to Lysekil. There are also direct buses from Gothenburg to Lysekil all year round. During some summer periods, boat traffic is available to Lysekil from other coastal towns in Bohuslän, such as Smögen or Fjällbacka. It’s always good to check current timetables and traffic updates. Västtrafik is the main public transport company in the region, and their app or website is useful for planning your journey.

If you arrive by car, you need to cross the Gullmarsfjord, which can be done by water or by road. There’s a car ferry from Finnsbo to Skår, which is part of the road network and departs regularly, free of charge.

Alternatively, you can drive around the fjord via Brodalen. Follow the E6, exit at junction 101 and continue on road 162. Strandvillan has a limited number of guest parking spots (not available for pre-booking), and nearby you’ll find public parking and electric car charging (fees may apply).

    Hiking trails in Sweden

The amazing thing about hiking in Sweden is that there is always more to discover. You can hike on remote mountain peaks, along rugged coastlines, beside bright yellow rapeseed fields, or near major cities.
