STF Skutskepparn Kuststation

Skutskepparn is located in Barsta in the parish of Nordingrå. Barsta was one of the early fishing villages used by fishermen from Gävle and was first mentioned as early as 1418. Fishing has long been an important part of the area’s history, but today the harbour serves as a marina and, during the season, as the home port for m/s RONJA, which takes guests to the island of Högbonden and the Högbonden lighthouse. 
 
The Skutskepparn Kuststation building dates back to the 1930s when it served as the local carpentry and boatbuilding workshop, with sailing vessels moored in the harbour as its backdrop. In the 1990s, the premises were converted into a restaurant, and the upper floor was fitted with eight rooms for guests. There is also the option to stay in the small, cozy fisherman’s hut.  
 
This bed and breakfast offers 7 double rooms and 2 triple rooms, with a total of 20 beds (including the fisherman’s hut). Breakfast and bed linen are included in all rooms. Guests share 2 showers and 2 toilets. The hut currently has access to a shower and toilet in the basement of Skutskepparn, about 40 metres away. 
 
Rhode and Örjan, who run Skutskepparn Kuststation, also operate a small farm with around fifteen cows, two horses, chickens, cats, and a dog. Their love for animals and nature means that dogs are welcome in all rooms, and most guests bring their four-legged friends. You’re also welcome to bring your dog to the restaurant, as long as it’s leashed and comfortable being around people and potentially other dogs. Outdoor seating is also available if that suits you better.
