Welcome to one of Sweden's most magnificent natural areas! The area covers the southern coast of Norrland, between Härnösand, Kramfors and Örnsköldsvik.
The moment you drive into the High Coast World Heritage Site and see the Högakusten Bridge rising up before you, you understand why this area counts as one of Sweden’s most magnificent natural areas. The bridge has been voted one of Sweden’s most beautiful structures, and the view over the Ångerman River is hard to beat. Nowhere in the world has the total land uplift been as great as here. And even today the land continues to rise by 8 mm a year. This is the highest coastline in the world, a unique area with plenty to discover. You can look forward to varied nature experiences and spectacular views over mountains, forest, lakes and sea.

Hiking on the High Coast
On the High Coast there are hikes for everyone, from well-known trails to lesser-known paths. Världsarvsleden (the World Heritage Trail, opens in a new tab) is a 100-kilometre trail that runs through the parish of Nordingrå. Along the way you pass many small villages and picturesque fishing hamlets. Sweet little boathouses alternate with viewpoint peaks offering breathtaking vistas. A more famous hike is the High Coast Trail, where you walk through several nature reserves, a national park and a natural World Heritage Site. You start at Hornöberget and Örnsköldsvik is the destination, with 128 kilometres of magnificent views and dramatic scenery in between. There is something special about coastal hikes, seeing sea and land meet. Expect impressive nature experiences!
Skuleberget and Skuleskogen
If you love views, the hike up Skuleberget is something for you. The summit, which has risen 286 metres out of the sea, offers a fairy-tale view. Don’t miss the chance to reward yourself with an ice cream or a fika at the popular Toppstugan afterwards.
In Skuleskogen National Park you walk through one of the coastal region’s few remaining old-growth forests with virgin-forest character. Here you’ll also find geological phenomena such as the mighty Slåtdalsskrevan, chiselled out by the ice age in the reddish Nordingrå granite.
