STF Hukejaure Mountain cabin

Mountain cabin located west of Sälka and Kungsleden

Travel information
Collapsed bridge along Gränsleden / Rádjebálges

The bridge over the Ubmasjåhkå stream along Gränsleden has collapsed and is completely unusable until further notice. This has a major impact on Gränsleden / Rádjebálges between Ritsem and the Norwegian Sörfjorden in Tysfjord municipality. Gällivare municipality strongly advises against any attempt to wade across the stream, as high water levels may pose a risk to life and health.

Alternative routes in the area: From Ritsem, you can instead choose the route north toward Sitasjaure and Hukejaure, and then connect to the Nordkalottleden trail toward Gautelishyttan. Another option is to take the boat from Ritsem across Ahkkajaure to Vaisaluokta. From there, follow the lake to its western end, connect to the Nordkalottleden trail, and either cross the Norwegian border toward Hellemobotn or follow the section of the trail that heads north to Røysvatnhytta. See a map and read more here (opens in new tab).

View details

The fishing in the whole area is good, both summer and winter.
Parts of the nearby surroundings are comprised of large rocky terrain. Your imagination is easily tempted to think about stone-throwing giants and what is hiding behind the next big stone – made for creating stories if you succeed in getting the kids all the way here. If you’re truly lucky, you can come across snowy owl and artic fox in the region. And of course, do an outing to Ivarsten, a boundary stone near Norway with royal inscriptions.

Please note that you can only pay with cash at this mountain cabin. Paying with Swish or debit card will not be possible.
