STF Orsa Hostel

Orsa is one of the smallest municipalities in Dalarna but still has almost everything you could want.
The hostel is located in Berget, approximately 500 meters from the E45, with an ice rink, exercise trails and lit ski trails on the doorstep. The shallow waters of lake Orsasjön and its wonderful sandy beaches are ideal for swimming, fishing, hiking, bowling or just enjoying the beautiful surroundings.
 
In the winter there are miles of marked trails for cross-country skating or cross-country skiing starting from the hostel or at the Grönklitt ski center. The ski center also has excellent downhill skiing facilities. A visit to Grönklitt Rovdjurscentrum with its Siberian tigers, wolves, Swedish brown bears and considerably larger Kamchatka brown bears, and other large wild animals is a must while you’re in Orsa.
 
Here you’ll find fabulous views and exciting wilderness experiences among waterfalls, mountains and ancient forests. The canyons Storstupet and Helvetesfallet in the beautiful Ämån valley are popular destinations, as are the traditional mountain grazing farms (fäbod) in Fryksås, Skräddar Djurberga and Grunuberg. The Dala horse workshop in Nusnäs, Santaworld in Gesundaberget and the Zorn Museum are also well worth a visit. And then of course, there’s Orsa-Yran, Sweden’s largest street music festival.
 
Without doubt, one of the highlights of the year is the traditional Midsummer celebrations which take place in every village throughout the Midsummer holiday. Join in as the elaborately decorated Midsummer poles are raised, watch Orsa’s folk dancers in their traditional costumes and listen to genuine folk music performed by local players.
