Important information for alpine skiers

Important information for downhill skiers

STF will discontinue avalanche mitigation on Nuolja from the 2026/2027 winter season. As a result, all downhill skiing is entirely at your own risk. There will be no ski patrol or mountain rescue services available.

Only single-ride tickets will be sold. Ski passes and season passes will no longer be available.

We recommend that everyone planning to ski on Nuolja or elsewhere in the mountains:

Has the appropriate equipment for alpine and avalanche terrain.
Plans their trip carefully, taking weather conditions and daylight hours into account.
Checks the latest avalanche forecast at lavinprognoser.se.

About the area

Abisko is located in northern Lapland, around 250 km north of the Arctic Circle, and is one of Sweden’s most accessible alpine mountain areas. Abisko National Park offers a well-developed trail system with clearly marked routes, making the area suitable for both shorter trips and longer hikes.

The Kungsleden trail passes through the area, heading south between Lapporten (Čuonjavággi) and Mount Nuolja. To the north of Abisko lies Lake Torneträsk, one of Scandinavia’s largest mountain lakes, contributing to open views and a varied landscape.

The area is known for excellent conditions for seeing the northern lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer. Visitors can follow marked trails independently or join guided tours, and equipment rental is available if needed.

Booking conditions

Tickets can be cancelled up to 3 days before the scheduled trip.
