About the accommodation

The hostel is located in the picturesque fishing hamlet of Baskemölla in a marvellous area of Sweden, Österlen. Here, orchards spread across the rolling landscape right next to the sea.

Art galleries, great places for swimming and the fishing harbour are all within walking distance of the hostel, which is surrounded by the unparalleled cultural landscape of Österlen.
 
Come to Österlen to experience the natural world with miles of beaches and picturesque fishing hamlets. Here, you can choose to go “all in” or “simply chill”. Many people are enticed by the peaceful natural world, the calm surroundings that give time for reflection. Both innovative and traditional food is readily available from many farm shops. Exciting historical sites, gardens and parks.
 
Many nature lovers come to Baskemölla every year to view the apple blossom, pasqueflowers, cowslips and orchids. The area has also much to offer birdwatchers and anglers. Hiking trails leave from right outside the hostel, and we are happy to suggest some great hikes. The most beautiful trail, which we always recommend, is the coastal trail from Baskemölla to the next fishing hamlet, Vik. Those who want to cycle will find superb cycle trails both along the coast and inland.
 
Tjörnedalagården lies in front of the hostel and attracts art lovers to its gallery and charming café. It arranges a very popular art ramble during the Easter period. Österlens Golf Club is only 3 km from the hostel, while Simrishamn lies 5 km away.
 
When Linné was travelling through Skåne he described this area as the most beautiful he had ever seen, and we are happy to agree with him. “The copse at Tjörnedala lay south of Rörum between the road and the sea, and was one of the most attractive copses I have seen.”

    Travel options
    Baskemölla is located 5 km north of Simrishamn in Österlen, 10 km south of Kivik. Malmö 10 miles. Gothenburg 30 miles. Kristianstad 60 km.
     
    Bus stop 400 m from the Hostel. Bus and train connections are available from Simrishamn, Kristianstad, Ystad-Malmö-Copenhagen.
     
    By car:
    From the north, from road no. 9 pass Kivik, Vik, after Vik about 1 km, turn left at the Baskemölla sign then drive about 400m and you have the hostel on the right.
     
    From the south, from Simrishamn take road 9 signposted Brösarp, Kristianstad. After 5 km you will come to the sign Baskemölla, drive past and continue for about 3 km and turn right at the sign Baskemölla. Then drive about 400m and you will have the hostel on the right.
     
    By bus and train:
    Bus line 3 runs between Kristianstad (65km) and Simrishamn (5km). Get off at the Baskemölla-Tjörnedalavägen stop and walk along Tjörnedalavägen about 400m and you will have the hostel on the right.
     
    By bike:
    From the north, road no. 9 from the north pass Kivik, Vik, Efter Vik about 1 km turn left at the Baskemölla sign then cycle about 400m and you have the hostel on the right. Most of it is on a cycle track and is excellent.
     
    From the south, from Simrishamn follow the cycle path that runs parallel to road 9. After 5 km you will come to the sign Baskemölla, turn right and cycle through the village and in the northern part you will have the hostel on the left.
     
    By foot:
    From the north via Skåneleden, pass Vik after about 2.5 km you will come to a gate and a stream. Just before you turn off to the right and follow the path over a beautiful meadow for about 3-400m and you will come to Tjörnedalgården, pass the farm and you are there.
     
    From the south, from Simrishamn follow the Skåneleden, after 5km you are in Baskemölla, continue on the Skåneleden. Pass the harbour, the swimming area and a stream and a gate, turn left and follow the path over a beautiful meadow for about 3-400m and you will come to Tjörnedalgården, pass the farm and you are there.
