STF Högbondens Fyr

Hostel, restaurant and café by the High Coast

Travel information

About the accommodation

Experience one of Sweden’s highest lighthouses, beautifully set in the heart of the High Coast World Heritage Site. STF Högbonden Hostel is dramatically perched on a cliff on the island of Högbonden, offering overnight stays, breakfast, lunch, coffee, and dinner.

View details

The island is a nature reserve with majestic landscapes and deep tranquillity – perfect for day visitors and overnight guests seeking unique experiences and relaxation. Once ashore, a winding 1 km walk leads you to the top of the island. The reward: a breathtaking view of the sea from the lighthouse and hostel.

The recently renovated hostel is located in the former lighthouse keeper’s residence, with 26 beds across nine rooms. An additional six beds are available in two dog-friendly rooms in a nearby building. All twin rooms have double beds, and all four-bed rooms have bunk beds. Guests share showers located in the main house; dry toilets are available in a separate building on the grounds. As the hostel sits atop an island in a nature reserve, access to water and sewage is limited.

At Högbonden’s café, you can enjoy coffee and views from the top of an island in the open sea. The café serves a selection of light dishes, waffles and sandwiches, ideal for hungry adventurers. You’ll also find cold and hot drinks, cookies and ice cream. The menu follows local availability and varies with the season. Overnight guests can purchase breakfast, dinner and snacks – or prepare meals in the guest kitchen.

There is also a sauna for rent down by one of the rocky beaches. Book your sauna session and buy firewood at the café.

    Hiking trails in Sweden

The amazing thing about hiking in Sweden is that there is always more to discover. You can hike on remote mountain peaks, along rugged coastlines, beside bright yellow rapeseed fields, or near major cities.
