STF Kapten Bille´s Hostel Norsholm

The Göta Canal with its sluice gates is a unique Swedish construction. The Norsholm sluice was inaugurated in 1826. Through the ages, many types of boats have passed here. One such boat was the stately canal boat S/S Pallas, whose captain Bille always sounded the whistle when the boat approached Norsholm. Today, the business proudly bears his name.

The beautiful red port warehouse where Kapten Bille’s is located was built around the 1890s and is situated right by the canal. The warehouse has been carefully renovated and is again teeming with life. At the ground floor restaurant, you can enjoy your dinner literally on the edge of the Göta Canal. When the weather is favorable, guests are served all the way to the deck that runs along the long side. The restaurant is open all year and is a destination in itself. Hours vary. At Kapten Bille’s, you can expect a dining experience that will delight your taste buds, whether you opt for our traditional home fare with a twist or a festive meal. Everything is cooked from scratch and with great love for the ingredients.

The second floor houses the rustic rooms with beautiful, wide floor tiles, a testament to the house’s long history. This floor also has a combined guest kitchen and meeting room. There is plenty of space for socializing, playing games and creating memories with friends and family.

Norsholm is a peaceful little town along the Göta Canal, half way between Norrköping and Linköping in Östergötland. The area has a lot to offer, both on land and on the water. You can rent a canoe and paddle along the canal or hike on historic trails. Go on an excursion to one of the nearby towns or experience beautiful castle settings. Everything is just a short distance away. After a day of activities, you can enjoy our wood-fired sauna and end your evening with a memorable meal in the restaurant.
