About the accommodation

At the venerable Åby Manor in the middle of beautiful Bohuslän you will find Nordens Ark. You will stay in a unique environment close to nature and experiences while at the same time supporting our work to protect endangered animals and biodiversity.

In the middle of the beautiful nature of Bohuslän with its rich offerings of experiences you will find Åby manor and Nordens Ark. Åby manor is one of Bohuslän’s oldest farms with a long and fascinating history. Stone Age graves and rock carvings testify to humans having lived here for thousands of years. This place is now home to Nordens Ark, a non-profit foundation that works to protect endangered animals and biodiversity and provide inspiration for a life-long commitment to nature.

In order to create the requisite conditions for this the work includes breeding and rearing endangered species as well as releasing them into nature. The preservation projects are the backbone of the foundation’s activities. We currently have around 60 species and breeds from snow leopard and Siberian tiger to white stork and red-crowned crane. When you stay with us you have the opportunity to see and learn more about these fascinating species. For those who make a reservation via STF we also offer free entrance.

You can stay comfortably at our bed and breakfast or be adventurous in one of the cabins in Ekoparken. Our location by the Åby fiord also offers Bohuslän’s rich selection of culture and nature around the corner. Not far from here there are salty swimming opportunities from rocks, picturesque fishing villages, lovely bike trails, museums, restaurants and much more. There are plenty of hiking trails both short and longer ones and we are on one of the stages of signature trail Bohuslän.

    Travel options
    Nordens Ark is in the heart of Bohuslän, 20 km from Smögen, 45 km from Uddevalla, 114 km from Gothenburg and 210 km from Oslo.

    With train and bus
    It is easy to get to us by public transport. The closest train stations are in Gothenburg, Uddevalla, Strömstad and Munkedal.

    You can then continue the journey to us with Västtrafik bus. Nordens Ark’s bus stop is just outside the entrance to Nordens Ark.

    With car
    From Malmö, Gothenburg and southern Sweden: Take the E6 towards Oslo. After Munkedal/Håby there are signs from E6. From Stockholm and northern Sweden: Take the E20 and drive towards Trollhättan/Uddevalla. Drive towards E6 Oslo and after Munkedal/Håby there will be signs for Nordens Ark.

    Parking is free at Nordens Ark. We also have disabled parking in connection to the entrance.
    For those arriving in an electric car you can charge the car at our parking via the Vattenfall app InCharge. We also have charging cards to lend you for a fee.
