Boats in the mountains

The mountains extend across a vast area, and, depending on how you plan your adventure, you might come across large lakes and rivers. This website has timetables, contact details and other information about boat services in the mountains.

Boats along the Kungsleden trail

If you walk along the Kungsleden trail north of Kvikkjokk, you will need transport by boat in four places – at Aktse, Sitojaure, Saltoluokta and at Teusajaure. There are rowing boats available at all of them except Saltoluokta, but you can also book or join scheduled trips.

The Kungsleden trail south of Kvikkjokk also has water trails. The first service starts in Kvikkjokk and is about 3 km. Here the water i flowing and there are no rowing boats available. The next water trail is over Lake Riebnes, which does not have rowing boats either. Before Jäkkvik there is a third short water trail, that only has rowing boats. Between Jäkkvik and Hemavan there is transport by boat available on request. There is more information available about scheduled services and trips on request on the Boat Services in Kvikkjokk website.

Note that you have to pay on location for all transport by boat, so take cash with you.

If you make use of rowing boats, there must always be at least one rowing boat left at every beach. So, if you arrive at a shore where there is only one rowing boat, you must first row over and fetch a boat to tow and leave where you started from. Only then can you continue along the trail. Please call the County Administrative Board of the Fjällförvaltningen (Mountain Administration) at +46 (0)920-962 00 for further information.

Teusajaure (2017)

Between Teusajaure and Vakkotavare you need transport by boat for about 1 km along the trail. The County Administrative Board has rowing boats available, but you can also get transported over the lake by the cabin manager in Teusajaure. If you want to go across the lake from the other side, you have to raise the flag to let the cabin manager know that you would like to be ferried by boat. The timetable below applies, the boat running 15 minutes later.
