Tarfala is the most high alpine cabin of all STF mountain cabin. Day tours here from Kebnekaise Mountain Station are common. From Tarfala, you feel the distance to the large glaciers and peaks. The cabin is surrounded by several peaks over 2,000 metres high – Kebnekaise’s north and south peak, Kaskasapakte and Kaskasatjåkka.

The icefall glacier with its fascinating crack formations is very close to the cabin. If you want to get close to Kebnepakte glacier, you can walk the trail north to Lake Tarfalajaure. Observe the glacier from a distance if you lack knowledge or experience, or go along with one of Kebnekaise’s guides on a glacier hike.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.
