Keb Classic takes a break in 2026
STF and the Swedish Climbing Association have decided to pause the Keb Classic event in the winter of 2026. The break is being made in order to review the safety aspects of the competition and thereby create the best possible conditions for the future. Once the review is complete, a decision will be made regarding a possible continuation of Keb Classic.

Kiruna
To reach STF Kebnekaise Mountain Station, take a train to Kiruna and then a bus to Nikkaluokta. For bus schedules, visit nikkaluoktaexpressen.se/ (opens in a new tab). From Nikkaluokta, it’s a beautiful 19-kilometer hike or ski tour to Kebnekaise Mountain Station. The route follows the Dag Hammarskjöld Trail (between Abisko and Nikkaluokta) through the fertile Ladjo Valley, alongside the headwaters of the Kalix River—one of Sweden’s great unregulated national rivers. Estimated hiking time is about 5–8 hours.
If you wish to shorten the hike, local companies offer boat transport in summer and snowmobile transport in winter. Please note that STF is not able to book these transfers for you. Book the snow mobile transport in advance www.nikkaluokta.com/en/mountain-transport (opens in a new tab). Read more about the boat transportation www.swedishtouristassociation.com/boats
BY CAR
If you're arriving by car, drive to Kiruna and then turn off toward Nikkaluokta, approximately 70 km. At the end of the road, you'll find a parking area with long-term parking available. Parking permits can be purchased at the mountain facility in Nikkaluokta (not operated by STF).
BY AIR
Kiruna is connected by air to Stockholm. However, air travel generally has a high climate impact per kilometer, so we recommend choosing train and bus whenever possible.

Sustainability pledge
The accommodation has taken the STF Sustainability pledge on working sustainably in their daily operations and involve you as a guest.
We are actively working to be as sustainable as possible. Here are some examples.
Our sustainability efforts
• Keep Kebnekaise clean! We have started Sweden’s highest altitude rubbish collection.
• Our food waste gets turned into nutritious compost.
• We optimise transportation of goods and waste in order to reduce emissions and noise.
Our sustainability labels
• KRAV
• Green Key
• Nature’s Best
How we fulfil STFs sustainability pledgde
• Not selling bottled water.
• Buying green electricity from renewable sources.
• We make it easy to recycle as this is available in several places at the mountain station with clear information on how to sort waste.
• Our helpful guests who take rubbish down with them after ascending Kebnekaise are offered free organic coffee!
• Energy consumption and CO2 emissions are obvious criteria when purchasing household appliances and vehicles.
• We have organic, KRAV-labelled options in both the restaurant and store and we inform guests about this.
• We provide information and assistance in order to help you make your stay in and around the facility as sustainable as possible.
• We provide advice about trails in the area, mountain safety and how to behave as a guest in the natural environment and reindeer grazing areas, how not to disturb animals and nature.
• We avoid single-use products and only use ecolabelled cleaning products.
• We are actively reducing paper use as we are installing hand dryers and avoid printing unnecessarily.
