STF Vakkotavare Mountain cabin

About the accommodation

The mountain cabin is on the northern shore of Lake Akkajaure, in the Stora Sjöfallet National Park, on the road between Gällivare and Ritsem. It’s easy to take a one-day excursion up to the barren mountain landscape along the Kungsleden hiking trail direct from the road and the cabin.

The climbing is demanding and you have to count on sweating a little before being rewarded for your hardship – an almost breathtaking view over the snow covered peaks of Akkajaure, Sarek and Áhkká. A few hundred metres from the cabin is good fishing in Lake Akkajaure, where the rapids have their outflow.
Also, feel free to visit the Suorva warehouse and dam construction that has made this Sweden’s largest regulation warehouse.

The mountain cabin has its own bus stop with daily connections to STF Ritsem, STF Saltoluokta and Gällivare.
 
This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Travel information
STF Vakkotavare Mountain Cabin is located along the public road between Gällivare and Ritsem. The cabin lies along the Kungsleden section between Nikkaluokta and Saltoluokta.

Public transport
The easiest way to get here is by bus from Gällivare, Saltoluokta or Ritsem.

Falcks bussar operates the route between Gällivare and Ritsem and stops at Vakkotavare bus stop, located along the road. See the timetable and book your ticket at www.roadtoritsem.com. You can also pay by card on the bus.

Gällivare has daily train connections with Stockholm and other cities. Train and bus tickets are conveniently booked together as a Resplus ticket.

Car
The Mountain Cabin is located along the road between Gällivare and Ritsem. There is a large parking area here. There is no street address.
