About the accommodation

STF Jamtli Hostel is located within the museum grounds at Jamtli, just north of central Östersund. You stay in buildings from the early 1900s, with the old farmsteads of the open-air museum as your closest neighbors.

The hostel is housed in beautiful buildings from the early 1900s, where the charm still lingers in the walls. The interiors have been carefully updated, and every room has a character of its own, with details that reflect the history of Jämtland. Accommodation ranges from simple single rooms to family rooms.

Guests share modern bathrooms and showers. There is also a laundry room with a washing machine, tumble dryer and drying cabinet. Wireless internet is available throughout the building.

In the shared kitchen in the main building you can cook your own meals, and it is also the place to settle down with a book or talk to other guests about the adventures of the day. There are toys, games, books and magazines for young and old alike. In summer, you can sit out in the courtyard in the evening sun.

Jamtli is the county museum of Jämtland. The open-air museum spreads out all around the hostel: a parkland with some fifty historic buildings that have been moved here from different parts of Jämtland and Härjedalen – farmsteads, summer pasture farms, a crofter’s cottage and a school. Everything is just a few minutes’ walk away, and in summer there are animals on the farms and staff in period costume.

From here it is a short distance to Lake Storsjön for a swim and to central Östersund. Several walking paths lead around the museum grounds.

Travel information

Jamtli Hostel has a central location, and you can easily walk here from Östersund's train and bus station in about 20 minutes.

TRAIN AND BUS
Östersund is easy to reach from Gothenburg, Stockholm or from the north, by both day and night trains.
There are plenty of bus routes to Östersund – the easiest way to search is via Länstrafiken Jämtland (LTR).

CAR
If you choose to drive, Östersund is a central stop along the E45/E14, the same road that continues north toward Arvidsjaur, or on toward Åre and Trondheim.

FLIGHTS
If you need to fly, there is a Swedavia airport in Östersund (Åre Östersund Airport) with airport buses that take you straight to the city center, only a stone's throw from Jamtli.
