Welcome to ÁILU – a tranquil outpost in the northernmost part of Lapland. Here you’ll find nature, silence, and the feeling of being far away from everyday noise. Whether you’re here to watch the northern lights, hike, fish or simply walk in the quiet, this is the place to enjoy the peace.
View details
ÁILU is located in the small village of Lannavaara, 130 km northeast of Kiruna, in the heart of northern Sweden. The clear skies, fresh Arctic air and sweeping views of forests and fells gives you space to breathe.
Lannavaara is just a few miles from the Three-Country Cairn, not far from Route 45 that takes you to the northernmost tip of Sweden. Many travelers stop in Lannavaara for a few days to relax before continuing their journey north. With its rich and fascinating history, the area is full of stories and traces of key events in northern Sweden’s development. In memory of the Laestadian era, the Laestadian Pilgrim Trail passes just outside the village, with memorials and a museum highlighting the area’s eventful past.
ÁILU is not a classic hotel, but rather a peaceful haven for travelers in search of simplicity, nature, and recovery. Perched on a small hill with views of the village, the hotel emphasizes hospitality and personal care. Whether you’re travelling solo, with family or on a creative retreat – this is where you can unwind at your own pace.
The guesthouse has four carefully furnished rooms – two singles and two doubles – with shared bathroom, kitchen and dining area. For those seeking more privacy, there’s a separate apartment with two double rooms, its own kitchen, bathroom and dining space. Simple, functional and designed in a Nordic style.
Áilu Arctic Hotel is run by Nina and Francisco, who come from Germany and Argentina. Together with their young son Tomás, they chose to settle in the renovated village school in Lannavaara. The school has also served as a monastery, and its colorful history is part of the village’s memory. Nina and Francisco’s journey to Lapland began with a longing for more space, tranquility, and a life in tune with nature’s rhythm. In Lannavaara, they found a place that truly touched them, and through ÁILU they have created something close to their hearts.
Welcome to Lannavaara and ÁILU Arctic Hotel.

Newly renovated, clean, and comfortable beds. Fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, but we ordered both dinner and breakfast, both of which were very good and well prepared. The family running the place was super nice. We could enjoy amazing northern lights in the evening.
